Barefoot started in 1958 as a livelihoods program for disadvantaged young women.  Now it is Sri Lanka's most renowned handloom and textiles manufacturer.  Workers are paid an honest wage and there is no time pressures asserted on the weavers and needlewomen.

 

 

The colour of the fabrics used is inspired by what the artisans see in the animals, sea, land, foliage, rock, trees and skies under which they live. A barefoot piece truly is a piece of another world.
A percentage of proceeds from the sale of the Barefoot elephants in store is being donated to the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka – a one-of-a-kind organization.
