Shilpa Trust India

Shilpa is an organisation in Karnataka, India, located in one of India's major IT cities, Bangalore.  Amazingly, the handmade nature of these artisans' work is preserved because of the principles of Fair Trade that permit them a fair wage, reasonable lead times and market price for their goods.  The Trust is committed to the social and economic development of rural artisans, both men and women.  The artisans operate within small teams in 16 workshops.  The Trust ensures 130 artisans receive fair wages.  Further benfits include a group insurance policy and assistance for the producers to send their children to school, which is a great thing, as many of the producers themselves had no opportunity for schooling.
