Room to Read is a global charity founded on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children. Its mission is to promote literacy in developing countries by partnering with local communities to establish schools, libraries, scholarships and other educational infrastructure. Through the opportunities that only an education can provide, Room to Read strives to break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time. Room to Read has a developing world model, and currently works in Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia,India, Sri Lanka, Laos, South Africa and Zambia.
The goal is to build a trusted global organisation that impacts 10 million children by 2020.
As at the end of 2008, already over 1.9 million children have benefited from the programmes.
