New in Store in April 08 are wonderful products from Thailand.  These travel from the Fatima Self Help Centre, an organization started by the Sisters of Good Shepherd in a particularly poor district of Bangkok. The Sisters started the centre in 1981 because of the concern they had for women and young girls in the district who were at risk of exploitation due to their poverty and poor social status.  By training them in embroidery, sewing and the making of handicrafts and by paying them an honest wage, the ladies are able to improve their status in their communities and provide income for their families.  Young girls are also encouraged to enter their leadership program and all ladies are supported in the Adult Education Programme, to further their studies and their vocational skills.  Plus their stuff is darn cute!  Everything from the Fatima Self Help Centre is on site and listed under Ethical Trade.
